News Update: The Public meeting held by our three local Councillors on Monday 16th January saw a packed St Martin's Hall .
Andrew Carter defended his sibling policy and answered many questions from worried Bourne parents many of whom think his new admission's policy is unfair. Mr Carter acknowledged that the South Farnham board of governors need to look into 'softening the blow' for people caught in the middle of the changes.
What became very apparent on hearing the statistics is that there are not going to be enough places for the increasing number of eligible school children and there is no simple solution.
The Bourne School/South Farnham Admission's Policy:
Andrew Carter and the Governors of the South Farnham School Academy Trust have just published the proposed admissions policy for !st September 2013 - August 2014. The policy prioritises children with siblings already at the school. This means that many local Bourne children who live even a stone's throw from it may not get admission into the Bourne School. This is causing much concern amongst local parents and the association is in close contact with local Councillors to discuss this matter further.
Please look in left hand menu to see Admission's Proposal Document and TBRA letter sent to local nurseries.
THE BOURNE WOODS:
A number of local residents have approached the Residents' Association re the constant filming that appears to be taking place in the Bourne Woods.
They have voiced concerns that there appears to be back to back filming taking place and for those living close to the site there is constant intrusion by noisy generators, traffic movement, lighting etc.
Members of the committee met with The Forestry Commission to help resolve these concerns.
Please look in left hand column under Bourne Woods for full history.
Government plans to sell Bourne Woods and Alice Holt put on hold
The government's consultation on proposals to sell 150,000 hectares of Forestry Commission land, including the Bourne Woods, is on hold. This is a major u-turn for the government which has faced a lot of opposition about this plan. Instead, it is understood a new panel of experts will be set up to look at public access and biodiversity within the publicly owned woodland.
The Bourne Woods are a vital part of the community environment and its history. They offer huge recreational, social, physical and mental health benefits to local people. The Bourne Residents Association will fight to preserve the woods and maintain access to them. We will be watching closely to see how debate on this issues continues and looking for any opportunities to influence it and protect our local forests. If you have anything to say about this, let us know.

Development at the crossroads garage site
The appeal was refused by the Inspector on the grounds that an inadequate assessment of the effects of redevelopment would have on the wild life which is thought to inhabit the site- mainly bats and badgers who are legally protected. Please look at The Farnham Herald November 18th 2011 where there is an article on this.
Whilst we recognise the disused garage site is in desparate need of improvement, we objected strongly to the current plans on several grounds; in particular the density and the safety of the proposed new footway along Burnt Hill Road which would encourage people to cross the Frensham Road unsafely.
