Open spaces and environment

This page is dedicated to our involvement in maintaining and preserving the local environment. This includes open spaces (such as Langhams Rec, the Bourne Green and our many parcels of common land), tree preservation orders and the stream.

The Lychgate in Vicarage Hill

A member of the committee noticed the perilous state of the Lychgate and graveyard. We applied for, and were very kindly donated, £550 by the Farnham Trust to repair the gate, the rest of the cost is being met by the Church. The Lychgate has now been restored and The Bourne Conservation Group have done a sterling job in restoring the graveyard.

Langhams Rec playground:

The playground is a great success and much used by all. Planting has taken place to give more screening and Waverley Council have now instituted more frequent grass cutting and rubbish clearing.Police neighbourhood patrols have been stepped up after complaints of noise and vandalism.

We are pleased to say that one of the seats has been reinstated with a second one due to be replaced in the Spring.

Middle Bourne Lane:

The plot of land known as the Community Garden is owned by Farnham Town Council. It has undergone a complete transformation in the past year and has just been awarded a silver gilt certificate in the 2009 South and South East in Bloom Competition. The work has been undertaken, with support from the local council, by the Bourne Conservation Group and local residents. The BCG spearheaded by Noel Moss is a wonderful asset to the Bourne and is instrumental in helping to keep these pockets of land in a manageable state so that we the local residents can access and enjoy them.
